History, Growth, Present Status

Indian Institute of Psychometry – IIP is an Institute which is involved in harnessing, nurturing  and cultivating Human Resource for today’s as well as tomorrow’s India.

We at IIP strongly believe...

"Learn not only to be professional but to have a mental makeup to be able to pursue anything with unflinching devotion and selfless passion".

We at IIP are taught to believe in ourselves and to believe in you (if you do believe in yourself !). Because "nothing is impossible for him who believes".

The cornerstones of the structure of the Institution are the Directors of IIP, Prof. S. Chatterji, and Prof. (Mrs.) Manjula Mukerjee (Chatterji), who by capitalizing their beliefs and investing their reputation and goodwill (earned during their tenure at the Indian Statistical Institute) launched IIP with a very modest beginning on 18th July 1978.

Starting its operation from a small two-roomed, rented flat, IIP has grown to its present volume and stature. IIP is operating with credence and grit for the last two decades and a brace of years and its claim to success will be hallmarked by more than a handful of government, private and public sector organizations like three State Governments of India (Entrance Examination for Engineering, Medicine, MBBS, MD, MS, Super-specialization), TELCO, TISCO, Indian, Air India, NALCO, VSP, HPCL etc. They have been deploying HP's psychometric skill and experience for recruiting, selecting and interviewing potential candidates, so that the system does not get burdened by ineffective, non-performing human resources.

Moreover, in course of its activities IIP evolved the "GROUP TASK" a procedure for assessment of personality traits more or less objectively, under selection situation. At present this method is being used in foreign countries and we are proud to point out that this method has been acclaimed as the "Best Single Predictor" of success when backed by adequate aptitudes.

In congruence to our above mentioned claims, IIP has been recognized as "Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation" under section 35 (i) (iii) in the year 1982, by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India.

Another accolade was attached to IIP when the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance, Government of India certified IIP as "An Institute of Considerable Public Utility" and advised all the Chief Executives of Public Sector Enterprises through a circular (No. 14/18/1983 G.M.II dt. 28/07/1983):

"You may like to consider obtaining the assistance of the Indian Institute of Psychometry which is a Non-Profit distributing Organisation, so as to ensure a high degree of consistency and objectivity in the standards of selection and evaluation".
